1. Tell us a little bit about Cherry Cakes. Cherry Cakes specializes in baking traditional, gluten-free and Paleo-friendly desserts. I baked my first cake for a Sweet 16 birthday; it was a Betty Crocker's Devils food cake with white icing. I've always baked desserts throughout the years for my family and friends for the holidays, but in 2011, I was unemployed and needed a creative outlet; so I decided to pursue baking as a business. But when I started working a full-time job again, I felt overwhelmed with working almost 24/7 and soon my passion stopped bringing me joy and felt more like a burden. I wasn't happy doing it anymore, and so I "retired" from the baking business. Fast forward to February 1, 2015, I was temporarily out of retirement because I was responsible for baking desserts for a friend's Super Bowl party. I baked the cupcakes and thought nothing else of it. However, from that moment on I had other friends' and family who would ask me to make desserts for their special events. I soon found love for it again! But since I was in grad school, I knew it would get put on the back burner. But, little did I know it was all a setup for what was to come. I have to thank all of the people who wouldn't let me give up on pursuing my passion, one of which was my sister. In October, we had a serious talk about why I wasn't pursuing my passion. Once I finally opened up to her about my fears, her words to me were, "I'd hate to see your God-given talent go to waste just because of fear". It was at that moment that I released my fears, and I took the leap of faith to open up my shop on Etsy. The rest is history. "I'd hate to see your God-given talent go to waste just because of fear." 2. What little piece of advice would you share with a fellow entrepreneur? Take time for yourself when needed. I say this because find myself putting all of my time and energy in my business that I sometimes forget to eat, drink water and get proper rest. I have to remind myself that it's okay to take a moment or even a day off just to relax. So, I would tell my fellow entrepreneurs to remember that care of self is important and to take time off when needed. 3. As you started your own business, what resources (book or podcast) have been an encouragement to you? I recently purchased Girl, Just Quit! How to Create a Business & Life You Love by Brandi Butler and Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out Loud, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes. 4. How was your experience with ShaynaMade? My experience with ShaynaMade was awesome! The whole purchasing experience was enjoyable. You got my vision, was responsive and an excellent communicator throughout the entire process. I love my new square business cards, and I also get a lot of compliments on them; they are very sleek and modern! 5. What is your favorite "pick-me-up" on a bad day? My puppy Bella, who is a blue nose pit bull! My "man-friend" surprised me on my 40th birthday, and I must say she was the absolute best present ever! I love her so much. She's super sweet, loving, happy and a complete character who always puts a smile on my face every day!
Do you want square business cards for your entrepreneur venture? We would love to create something awesome for you!
